AFTA targets Tasmanians to book ATAS
The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) launched a major consumer awareness campaign in partnership with the Tasmanian State Government in Hobart last Friday.
The campaign is designed to showcase ATAS-accredited agents in Tasmania to ensure more Tasmanians know to choose ATAS agencies for travel bookings.
The major consumer campaign will be promoting the advantages of booking with an ATAS travel agency, through TV, radio, print and online and will run throughout September and October.
Also at the launch, the Minister responsible for Consumer Affairs, the Hon Guy Barnett MP said it was important that consumers knew the benefits of using accredited travel agents.
“I congratulate AFTA on their work in developing the ATAS accreditation scheme. Consumers should know that in choosing an ATAS accredited travel agent, they are accessing high quality advice and expertise from travel industry professionals, with links to some of the best suppliers and packages available,” Minister Barnett said.
As part of the campaign, agents are being encouraged to update all in-store signage. AFTA is running a #RIPtheSticker competition to go into the draw for a $5,000 Trafalgar cooperative marketing voucher for the best social media post showing removal of the old TCF stickers.
AFTA CEO Jayson Westbury said. “AFTA is proud to have secured a significant partnership with the Tasmanian Government to run a major consumer campaign promoting the advantages of booking with an ATAS travel agency, but before the campaign kicks off on 4 September, we need all agents to update in-store and online signage so that they get the full benefit of this initiative,”

ATAS accreditation means the travel agency has qualified for the AFTA Travel Accreditation Scheme. Booking with an ATAS agent means you’re in safe hands and can travel with confidence.
As part of the scheme, all ATAS-accredited agents must fully comply with Australian Consumer Law and consumers are protected by ACL provisions when purchasing travel-related products and services.
