Australia visted by world’s largest plane

The world’s largest plane, the Antonov An-225 Mriya, touched down in Perth on the weekend for a first time visit down under.

The only one of its type, the An-225 was chartered by a resources company to transport a 117-tonne turbine for its operations in WA’s South West.

Planespotters lined the fence at a temporary viewing area on Airport Drive, in Perth to get a glimpse of the plane.

 

The Antonov was in Perth for about 48 hours as it took around 12 hours to unload its cargo.

The aircraft has 32 wheels, a wing span of 84.4 metres and a maximum take-off weight of 640 tonnes.
