In search of adventure? Here’s how to find it…
For some, finding themselves amid the vibrant natural beauty of Fiji is adventure enough. Pass the pina colada.
But others will feel the need to ramp up the thrills just a tiny notch more in their quest to shake off the shackles of everyday life.
Luckily, Fiji is the perfect destination for adventure lovers.
From zip lines to shark dives, we round up our favourite four white-knuckle experiences:
- Hit the surf
Surfers have been flocking to catch a wave at one of Fiji’s legendary breaks for decades.
Take 11-time World Surf League champion Kelly Slater. The US surf king has been visiting Tavarua for more than 20 years, mainly due to a soft spot for Cloudbreak.
But you can stay at a number of other resorts to have access to the best waves, for example Lomani Island Resort and Plantation Island Resort among others.
The Surf breaks surrounding these islands include Cloudbreak, Desperations, Namotu Left, Restaurants, Swimming Pools, Wilkes Pass.
- Take to the trees
You don’t have to be Tarzan to appreciate the verdant tropical lushness of Fiji’s interior thanks to the sky-high ziplines that can be found across the islands.
At Zipline Pacific Harbour, you can learn about the diversity of the Fijian Rainforests while zipping through the canopy.
Or take on the 16 giant zip lines just 35 minutes outside downtown Nadi where you’ll swing high above the canyon into Fiji’s largest cave.
- Dive with sharks
- Battle with white water rapids
If you’re an expert with a paddle, or you have no idea what a paddle even is, then you’re just as likely to enjoy a river or sea kayaking trip in Fiji. Reach patches of dense tropical rainforest, remote highland villages and stretches of ocean rich in marine life that you just wouldn’t be able to access any other way. Or at least, it wouldn’t be nearly as much fun.
Operators such as Rivers Fiji will take you along the Wainikoroiluva River and the Upper Navua Gorge where you’ll not only get a work-out but experience some breathtaking scenery along the way. Or if you’re after white knuckle thrills, then opt for the white water rafting itinerary.
The wide open ocean more your scene? Then take a sea kayak trip through mangrove forests and snorkel pristine coral reefs.
Now that’s an adventure.
