Outrigger Resorts celebrates 68 years
From the very beginning, Roy and Estelle Kelley had a vision to “share the spirit of aloha.”
Their vision was realised on 29 September 1947, when they opened the doors to their first hotel in Waikiki, the first new hotel to be built on the beach in twenty years.
Almost seventy years later, their legacy lives on in a global portfolio including nine Outrigger Resorts in six of the most iconic tropical destinations across Hawaii, Asia-Pacific and the Indian Ocean.
This year marks the 68th anniversary of Outrigger Hotels and Resorts.
Outrigger Enterprises Group vice president of corporate communications, Bitsy Kelly spoke of the company ethos that Outrigger Resorts still upholds today.
“When my grandparents founded the company back in 1947, they instilled several core values like providing guests with distinctive hospitality and value, and treating every employee like ohana, or family.”
On 29 September this year, Outrigger Resorts will commemorate the Hotel’s storied history with a worldwide Founders Day and a range of celebratory events.
Destination Celebration
To make sure you don’t miss out on the party, here’s a wrap up of the planned celebrations, as well as a list of some of the top Outrigger Resorts destinations where you can celebrate in style.
Social Media and Instagram photo contest
Outrigger guests from each of the nine properties will be invited to share photos capturing the essence of hospitality with the hash tag, #OutriggerFoundersDay. Winners with the greatest engagement will receive a special prize during their stay.

To show appreciation to travel agents, Outrigger Resorts is offering heavily discounted reservations booked before 31 October for stays through to 30 November at participating properties in Hawaii, as well as double rewards points to agents who sign up to become Outrigger Expert Agents before 12 October (see outriggeragent.com for details, or call 1-855-707-2582).
Other festivities include two limited edition commemorative t-shirts available for purchase online or in Hawaii, and the Manager’s Reception at each hotel, featuring cake and complimentary refreshments as well as prizes and photo opportunities with cardboard clones of Roy and Estelle themselves.
