A sickie worth chucking

A sickie worth chucking

It appears Aussies aren’t very good at covering their digital footprints while wagging work.

According to a Hotels.com survey, 11% of Australians have been caught chucking a sickie through social media posts or tags.

While only 5% of Aussies said they were unluckily busted by their employers, 34% admitted to calling in sick while wagging. It turns out friends, family, and colleagues were the biggest traitors, with 36% accidentally exposing truancy to our bosses through social media.

Over a third of Australians admitted to calling in sick due to being stressed out at work and in need of a break, proving it’s not just holidays tempting us to lie.

For those chucking a sickie to take a holiday, 63% take a break locally, while 36% prefer to flee the scene of the crime and travel interstate or even internationally.

“Take a sickie if you must, but rather than stay at home, take advantage of the thousands of competitive hotel deals on offer and book your escape on our easy-to-use website,” Hotels.com’s regional director, Australia, New Zealand, & Singapore, Katherine Cole said.
