Switzerland not just for the rich and famous

Switzerland not just for the rich and famous

Switzerland is no longer beyond the means of the average traveller as a winter holiday destination, the latest Snow Travel Expos in Sydney and Melbourne reveal.

Over the past few years, a greater number of Australians have recognised the affordability of Switzerland for snow holidays and the abundance of activities and products on offer.

“Switzerland offers a wide range of packages to suit different requirements including ski pass and accommodation combos; family deals; combined ski, accommodation and mountain railway passes and much more,” director of Switzerland Tourism ANZ Mark Wettstein, who was present at the Expo, said.

Head of sales for Jungfrau Railways Daniela Fuchs, who was also at the Expo, added that there is something for holidaymakers on all budgets.

“When it comes to value for money for example, a six-day ski pass in the Jungfrau region is only AUD395 and that provides pass holders convenient access to various slopes around the region,” Fuchs said.

Many of those who visited the Expo were well informed and knew what they would like to see in Switzerland. Stays at traditional Swiss mountain huts, day excursions to smaller villages and snow sports were among the most sought-after experiences.

Visitors were advised that the best time to travel to the birthplace of winter tourism is during the low season in January, where they can take full advantage of the discounts and deals on offer. They were also reminded that children under 16 years of age travel for free on Swiss public transportation when accompanied with a guardian with a Swiss Travel Pass – a huge bonus for families visiting Switzerland.
