Qantas puts flights where the money is

Qantas will return to regular services between Perth and Singapore putting almost 1700 seats per week on the route.

Since ending regular services in May 2014, Qantas has operated seasonal flights between Perth and Singapore during peak periods, while Jetstar Asia has taken the brunt with 13 services per week.

Qantas now plans to amp up flights to five return Boeing 737 Perth-Singapore services a week from June 26, focussing on providing WA business travellers a business class option year-round between the two cities.

Qantas International ceo Gareth Evans made the announcement in Perth while inspecting works on the airline’s new domestic Business Lounge, which will open later this year.

“We know how important it is for West Australian business travellers to have seamless access to Asia so we’re delighted to be able to offer the Perth-Singapore route with a schedule and aircraft type that will make it commercially viable,” Evans said.

“The new international service has been made possible through the Qantas Group’s aircraft utilisation program – which is about having the right aircraft on the right route – and matching schedules with customer demand.”

The 12-seat business cabin on the route will allow guests to sample Qantas’s new Neil Perry Rockpool dining experience, and almost as importantly, will be given its popular pyjamas when flying on the evening service.

Meanwhile, economy customers will be offered the airline’s new economy meals and enjoy seat back in-flight entertainment.

“The service from Perth will arrive into Singapore at 5.20pm providing excellent connections with our airline partners into key regional Asia destinations including Tokyo, Shanghai and Delhi subject to regulatory approval,” Evans said.

The airline is offering special one-way sale fares starting at $199. In other news, yesterday the airline announced its pilots would be fitted out in designer wear.
