United puts the oomph back into economy food

United Airlines is amping up its food offerings back in Economy this spring.

For passengers on long-haul international flights, it’s an all new dining experience that can be expected, designed to bring more flavour to complimentary meals, as well as more quantity.

Complimentary beer and wine, and the option to purchase premium snacks will also jump on board United’s flights.

The airline will introduce snacks for purchase in United Economy on long-haul international services, giving passengers access to a range of packaged snacks and snack boxes.

The shake ups will be introduced from June 1 on trans-Atlantic flights, including flights to Argentina, Brazil and Chile, and most trans-Pacific flights.

United starts its changes by expanding the economy meal to a three-course service of beverage and snacks, followed by a substantial main meal accompanied by salads and breads.

United will offer beer and wine at no charge in United Economy on intercontinental flights with multi-course meal service, with each customer also receiving a complimentary bottle of water to stay refreshed throughout their flight.

Additionally, customers may purchase half-bottle premium wines, while the airline continues to offer spirits for a cost.

Complimentary pre-arrival service will continue with the airline, and depending on the market flow, economy customers will score a croissant with jam, a warmed sandwich or a hot meal served with fruit and a roll.

On flights where a hot meal is available, new options, such as cinnamon-swirl French toast and a Tuscan skillet with scrambled eggs, will join current offerings.

“United is committed to improving every aspect of our customers’ experience on the ground, in the air and with every interaction,” United’s senior vice president of customers Sandra Pineau-Boddison said.

“The changes to come on June 1 will deliver an elevated onboard experience on many of our intercontinental flights and will offer travelers the high level of service they expect from a global airline.”

The upcoming refresh is part of United’s ongoing investment in its customers’ travel experience from booking to arrival. The airline has also revamped many of its largest airport terminals including Chicago, Houston, New York, San Fran, Boston and London, giving flyers a streamlined experience, new restaurants and power outlets throughout.
