Marriott has opened the first AC Hotel in New Orleans, specifically targeting millennial travellers with an edgier look and feel to its parent brand.

The 220-room hotel is one of 100 planned for the AC brand, which originated in Europe. It has no space for the traditional business centre, instead replacing it with ‘social lobbies’ for guests to work and play, a skift report stated.

While rooms are designed with a minimalist feel, AC guests can refill water bottles from hydration stations, which are available on every floor. The mini-fridge in rooms also contains chilled glasses, skift reports.

The hotel’s lounge serves cocktails on tapas, and instead of in-room mini-bars, the hotel features a shop filled with wine and snacks for purchase. The ‘media salon’ doubles as a meeting space where guests can connect wirelessly to flat-screen TVs to give presentations.

Marriott are on a mission to re-establish its brands for new emerging markets, and along with AC hotels, the group will launch EDITION – a luxury lifestyle brand in a similar vain to boutique hotels, and Moxy in partnership with IKEA for a range of budget hotels in Europe.
