Carnival responds to industry changes

By admin

Carnival Australia has responsed to end of the Travel Agents Act and the start of the new industry accreditation scheme by issuing new guidelines for agents using its booking systems.

From December 1, agents will be required to provide an International Air Transport Association (IATA) accreditation number, an ATAS certificate of accreditation or a certificate of currency for Travel Agent and Intermediary Failure Insurance (TAIFI) or similar insurance product via the World’s Leading Cruise Lines (WLCL) website.

WLCL unites all seven cruise lines – P&O Cruises Australia, Princess Cruises, Carnival Cruise Lines, Cunard, P&O Cruises World Cruising, Holland America Line and Seabourn – under one overarching umbrella, providing a 24/7 single point of access to Polar online and additional trade tools for all brands.

“In this new operating environment, we believe the arrangements now being put in place represent a sensible and necessary step to enhance the reputation of the travel industry,” a Carnival statement said.

“The new arrangements are not simply with our own interests in mind of those of our passengers. We see them as a way of maintaining the credibility of the travel sector in a way that gives confidence to consumers.”

Carnival stressed that it is not specifying that agents should have a TAIFI policy, with any equivalent policy that protects passengers from loss of funds also sufficient.

“We don’t envisage that the new arrangements will have a significant impact for agents as we would expect they would already hold one or more of the three items that we are seeking or are independently taking steps to obtain them,” it said.
