Thailand attempts to revive Australian market

Thailand attempts to revive Australian market
By admin

Thailand’s tourism industry is showing signs of a swift recovery after being hit by the military coup, its tourism association has insisted as it implements a plan to restimulate the local market.

The night-time curfew put in place by the Thai junta, formally known as the National Council for Peace and Order, when it took control of the country three weeks ago was removed earlier this week. It had already been lifted in some provinces and major beach resorts.

“This very positive development has reassured everyone planning to come to Thailand that our bargain shopping, dining and nightlife attractions are operating just the same as ever before and are waiting for them with open arms,” Tourism Authority of Thailand director Australia Numfhon Boonyawat said.

She revealed a new TAT campaign is being designed to encourage Australians to return to the destination by highlighting the value it has to offer.

Meanwhile, she personally thanked the Australia travel industry for its “unbending support” during the recent unrest, as evidenced by strong attendance at the recent Thailand Travel Mart in Bangkok. The event attracted 343 international buyers, with 26 of those from Australia.

Boonyawat expressed confidence Thailand remains on track to achieve its target of more than 30 million visitors this year.

“The NCPO is extremely aware of how important tourism is to our country and continues to both encourage and show very positive support to help the industry,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Smartraveller service continues to advise Australians to exercise a "high degree of caution" in the destionation.

"The security situation remains volatile," it says on its website. "You should pay close attention to your personal security at all times and where possible monitor the local media, including sociasl media, for information about possible new safety or security risks."
