Carnival Corporation has opened an office in Singapore as it steps up efforts to tap into the cruising potential “powerhouse” of Asia.

The office will house Carnival Asia, a division of Carnival Corporation designed to oversee the company’s Asian strategy.

Carnival Australia chief executive Anne Sherry said: “Our Carnival Asia growth is off to a great start with major centres in Asia such as Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai making big investments in port infrastructure to attract cruise ships and the economic benefits they deliver.

“Asia is emerging as a potential powerhouse of cruise industry growth and we know from our own experience that an increasing number of Australians are looking to Asia for new destination and cultural experiences.”

 

Air Pacific chief commercial officer Aubrey Swift has stepped into the role of acting chief executive following the departure of Dave Pflieger.

Meanwhile, the airline's board confirmed it expects to conclude its search for a permanent replacement next month, reporting worldwide interest in the role

 

 

P&O Cruises has appointed Derek Pohlmann to the newly created role of trade marketing manager as parent Carnival Australia forges ahead with plans for its brand specific sales structure.

Pohlmann's main focus will be "streamlining" communication to P&O Cruises' travel agent partners.

"It's a case of unifying the message while driving P&O Cruises' business within the trade sector," he said.

 

Iraq and Kosovo are among the new destinations in Explore Worldwide’s new 2013/14 Discovery Adventures brochure.

The program features 450 itineraries with the Philippines also new along with Madagascar and Kyrgyzstan.

To mark the launch, Explore is giving one agent the chance to win a 14-day holiday to Vietnam for two with consultants automatically entered into the draw for every Explore booking until June 28.

 

Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed a franchise agreement that will introduce its Holiday Inn brand to Mauritius.

Under the deal with Airport Hotel Limited, the 140-room Old Manor House at Plaisance Airport will become the Holiday inn Mauritius – Plaisance Airport.

It joins IHG's Intercontinental Resort Mauritius which opened in 2009.

 

Etihad will grow capacity on its daily service between Abu Dhabi and New York with the deployment of a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on the route from June 1. 

 

South African Airways has released discounted upgrade business class fares between Sydney and Johannesburg for travel on SA7701 and SA7700.

Economy class passengers can upgrade for $2200 on way and $3800 return for travel between now and July 31 and must be booked through a travel agent until June .
