Thailand Tourism head visits down under

Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mrs Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, is visiting Sydney and Aukland to meet with selected wholesalers, travel agents and media to inform the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) new strategic policy for 2017.

During her time in both cities, she will also meet with Thai senior government officers to discuss ways to better work together to promote Thailand in Australia and New Zealand and to strengthen overall bilateral relationships.

In 2017, the target for TAT is to raise revenue earnings from international visitors by 10% to 1.89 trillion Baht.

Consequently, TAT is starting to shift the structure and direction of the national tourism industry towards a new value-based offer in order to position Thailand as a Quality Leisure Destination.

Their goal is to move the industry from offering “Value for Money” to “Value for Experience” and focus on unique Thai local experiences in order to create valuable and memorable experiences for tourists. This will mean greater emphasis on promoting Thailand through Thai culture, experiences and way of life.

TAT is also organising a range of trade shows, festivals, international conferences and other cultural and heritage events designed to grow international and domestic tourism flows.

This year, Thailand will be the host country for the annual World Tourism Day on the 27th of September, sponsored by the UN World Tourism Organisation. In 2017, Thailand will also host the Summit of the World Travel and Tourism Council in April and the Destination Wedding Planners Congress in May.
