REVIEW: The Sanchaya is an enchanting luxury beachfront estate on Bintan Island!
We throw around the word luxury quite loosely these days… But let us show you what luxury truly looks like less than an hour away from Singapore!
Welcome to The Sanchaya! This is where unparalleled opulence thrives on the tropical Island of Bintan.
The Sanchaya sits on a stunning ten hectares of beachfront so travellers can experience the sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere of this hidden gem in what could be the best hotel in Bintan Island.
Pristine white sands, charming uninterrupted ocean views and a sophisticated yet quaint colonial design is what truly takes your breath away at first glance. The Sanchaya is renowned for its indulgent design and fine art detail with hand selected pieces tastefully showcased throughout the hotel complimenting the dark wooden floors perfectly to create a romantic atmosphere. The Sanchaya is a full sensory experience for the eyes and soul.
Less than one hour ferry ride away from the hustle and bustle of Singapore, this private and luxurious getaway awaits. Meaning “the collection” in Sanskrit, this property captures the essence of east meets west with its southeast Asian history and culture blended beautifully throughout the spectacular décor, mouth-watering food and carefully curated experiences.
Newly refurbished and inspired by the deep passion for the region, The Sanchaya is more than a hotel, it’s a destination for the art, history and food enthusiast.
The Rooms
With 21 villas and 9 suits to choose from, travellers are spoilt for choice no matter how small or large your entourage is. Each room has its own eloquent charm and personality, but while no room looks identical, travellers can count on the lush 464 thread count Egyptian cotton bed linen and extensive pillow menu for a deep well earned sleep in any room type.
While spacious and airy, the rooms are designed for privacy. Enjoy your favourite book on the sunlounge in your veranda or practise your morning yoga in your own living room.
The estate is large enough to accommodate families and couples without you having to hear your neighbours, making it perfect for anybody looking to escape the big city.
Activities
The Sanchaya is not short of facilities and with beautifully kept grounds that can only be rivalled by a lavish Victorian garden, the estate begs for exploration.
Take one of the house bikes out for a stroll around the beautiful, calm roads or take it for a spin on the 7.2km track around the lake. Lawn croquet, Padel Tennis, Petanque and Boccia, paddle boarding, beach kite flying and even Blokart sailing are all on offer at The Sanchaya, but, if eating and drinking sounds more your thing, indulge in a cook and learn class or a cocktail and mocktail class with Bintan Islands’ only mixologist exclusive to The Sanchaya. It’s an unforgettable culinary journey that’ll imprint itself on your tastebuds for weeks to come.
Dining
The Sanchaya has two main restaurants: The Dining Room (which is open all day) and the Tasanee Grill, which serves meals poolside.
The Dining Room offers a beautiful setting with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the estate’s lush surroundings and into the ocean. The hero of this restaurant, however, is not the light, airy atmosphere that comes alive with antique and historical art pieces, but the fresh local produce to Bintan Island. It creates a harmony of Asian flavours elevated to tantalise all your tastebuds (The Bouillabaisse is an absolute must try!)
Tasanee Grill, the Thai street food-style menu, is a must! Tasanee combines alfresco poolside dining with the culinary delights of Thailand for the perfect post-swim nibbles.
For more intimate and private setting The Decanter is also available to book which is ideal for a private dinner for up to 10 guests. This glass-walled wine cellar will sure to delight the senses in more ways than one. It’s exclusive wine list features boutique wines from award winning vineyards across the world.
Spa
Travellers are spoilt for choice at the The Sanchaya Spa. It offers a choice of indoor and outdoor treatment rooms to experience an array of massages available to customise such as Thai, Balinese and Swedish, as well as the Signature treatment featuring a combination of deep tissue and warm stone therapies.
Unique Spa products feature original aromas with a choice of essential oils that reflect the body’s seven sacred chakras.
Getting to Bintan
A short and relaxing 50 minute ferry ride from Singapore (Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal), close to Singapore’s Changi Airport, through to Bintan (BBT ferry terminal).
Arrive to a luxurious VIP lounge providing tea, coffee and light refreshments. Enjoy express clearance before being getting on a 10 minute chauffeured transfer to The Sanchaya where the island escape begins.
