Tourism Australia takes home top gong

Australia’s national tourism organisation, Tourism Australia, has been voted as the ‘best destination’ marketeer at the annual World Routes awards in Chicago last night, further cementing the strength of the nation’s tourism campaigns.

Minister for trade and investment, Andrew Robb, said Tourism Australia was recognised for its successful collaborative approach to global aviation development “characterised by its extensive marketing activities and joint campaigns with more than 20 international airlines, as well as strong partnerships with Australia's airports and state and territory tourism bodies”.

“Ensuring that our marketing campaigns are effective and targeted is one of four priorities for the tourism industry that I outlined with state and territory ministers soon after forming Government.

“While air capacity to Australia has increased seven per cent in the past 12 months, we still need more aviation capacity to keep pace with Australia’s growth in international arrivals,” Robb said.

Robb, along with minister for transport, Warren Truss will co-chair a forum with representatives from the airline, airport and tourism sectors tomorrow, to discuss Australia’s footing to meet future demand.
