Qantas, Emirates get New Zealand all clear
By admin

The alliance between Qantas and Emirates has received the all clear from the New Zealand minister for transport, seven weeks after it received Australian approval.

Now, New Zealand customers will have access to improved links with Australia, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and the UK offered by the combined network.

Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce described the approval as "great news" for both global travellers and local tourism.

"This decision means that New Zealand consumers can tap into the lounges, frequent flyer benefits and destinations available under the joint Qantas and Emirates network," he said.

"This partnership also opens the door to increased toruism opportunities for New Zealand, by making it easier for travellers across both Qantas and Emirates' network to connect more seamlessly across the Tasman."

Meanwhile, Emirates boss Tim Clark highlighted the benefits of the partnership which he described as "truly game- changing".

"Dubai is a leading global hub and through it, our two airlines will connect New Zealand to Europe, the UK and Northern Africa more smoothly than ever before," he said.

Under the alliance, the two carriers operate a combined total of 129 flights per week between Australia and New Zealand on a mix of B737, A380 and B777 aircraft.
