Big name chefs lured to WA gourmet festival

A gourmet food festival in Western Australia has lured a three Michelin star chef from the third best restaurant in the world to this year's event – and also wooed back Heston Blumenthal.

Organisers of the Margaret River Gourmet Escape have announced that Massimo Bottura, chef at Osteria Francescana in Italy, would attend the November event as part of his Australian book tour for "Never Trust a Skinny Italian Chef".

The modern Italian restaurant was for the second year running ranked number three in The World's 50 Best Restaurants Awards list, behind Noma in Denmark and El Celler De Can Roca in Spain.

Number five on that same list was London's two Michelin starred Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, which will also be represented at the WA festival with the celebrity chef's right-hand-man Ashley Palmer-Watts.

Foodies who attended last year's event and were disappointed Blumenthal didn't plate up a single morsel – although he did several Q&As – will be salivating to hear he and his three Michelin star Fat Duck head chef Jonny Lake will be serving the restaurant's famed "Botrytis Cinerea" dessert at Voyager Estate.

Other major drawcards include the first female British chef to earn three Michelin stars, Clare Smyth of London's Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, and the "Feast in the Forest" event where whole animals will be slow cooked over coals.
