Colorado Tourism Office say G’day to the industry

As a part of its 5-city mission to connect with the Aussie travel industry, the Colorado Tourism Office joined media and travel titans last Friday at Bentley’s in the Sydney CBD.

Here, the Colorado Tourism Office reminded the industry why Colorado is such a popular destination for Aussie travellers and what’s new over the Pacific in their region.

Some of the new hotspots that have opened since the pandemic include:

  • Rocky Mountaineer: launched in August 2021, Rocky Mountaineer’s Rockies to the Red Rocks route between Denver and Moab is currently running its first full season (April-October). This two-day journey that takes passengers past mountains, canyons, vineyards and the Colorado River includes a one-night stay in Glenwood Springs, home to the deepest hot spring pool in the world.
  • The world’s highest cog railway is renovated and open: The Broadmoor Manitou & Pikes Peak Cog Railway reopened after a multi-year hiatus for repairs in spring 2021.
  • Dark skies: Colorado’s self-guided stargazing tour ‘Experience the Night’ added three new locations to its roster for the 2022 summer travel season. In addition to the original seven locations, Colorado Stargazing now includes Gunnison, Ridgway and Nucla, Naturita and Norwood.
  • New boutique lodging across the state that is due to launch soon includes an A-Frame Lodging Club in Winter Park, a base camp in Grand Junction, lodging at a historic drive-in movie theatre in the San Luis Valley, Frontier Drive-in.
  • Amache National Historic Site becomes America’s newest national historic site: President Biden signed the Amache National Historic Site Act in spring 2022, designating the Amache site in Granada as part of the National Park System.

A selection of new hotels has landed in the Mile High City, ranging from brands you know to boutique properties that take on the personality of their neighbourhood.

Now open:

  • The Rally Hotel: 263 room independent, boutique hotel located across from Coors Field (opened March 2021) and taking on a baseball theme throughout.
  • Catbird: 165 rooms, extended stay with rooftop bar in RiNo neighbourhood. Designed as a place in-between a hotel and home.
  • Thompson Denver by Hyatt: 224 rooms, near Union Station – sophisticated city centre location with a style that embraces Colorado’s casual mountain vibe.
  • Hyatt Centric: 263 rooms,  17th & Champa.

Opening Soon:

  • Vib by Best Western Hotel & Resorts – 140 rooms, in Denver’s trendy RiNo neighbourhood.
