NT festival Parrtjima partners with Travel Associates to release boutique travel packages

Registrations are now open for the spectacular 10-night Parrtjima – A Festival in Light, which will return to Alice Springs in April next year.

Organisers have once again teamed up with Travel Associates to create new travel packages to help interstate visitors make the most of a trip to the Red Centre,  incorporating not only the festival but also a variety of memorable Central Australian experiences.

Parrtjima, which takes place at Alice Springs Desert Park and Araluen Arts Centre, keeps the flame of story and authentic Aboriginal culture alive by using the newest technology to tell ancient stories against the stunning backdrop of the 300-million-year-old MacDonnell Ranges.

Parrtjima is delivered by the Northern Territory government via Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC) and creative directors AGB Events.

“The Northern Territory is home to some of Australia’s most unique events, and Parrtjima is a real standout when it illuminates the desert landscape of Mparntwe each year,” NTMEC chief executive Tim Watsford said.

“A bridge to understanding culture and country, Parrtjima is a welcoming space for all Australians to come together and find their place in the story.

“More and more people are adding this event to their ‘must visit’ list, and our partnership with Travel Associates means they can combine Parrtjima with the best the Red Centre has to offer.”

Packages include experiences such as a special Preview Night with Traditional Owners and artists, an evening tour of Desert Park to spot some of its nocturnal inhabitants, and a private art curator tour at Araluen Arts Centre, with a focus on Albert Namatjira and the Western Desert Art Movement.

“As the country opens up it’s time to take your next experience and discover a place that makes you feel alive with the celebration of an ancient culture,” AGB Events’ First Nations advisor and Parrtjima curator, Rhoda Roberts, said.

It’s a time to witness the lights that bring more than a glow to the desert landscape – it’s a spiritual domain that provides a connection to country.

“Parrtjima 2022 opens new ground with story, art, performance and light installations. This year is a new exploration, and we’re so excited to continue shining a light on important cultural traditions and knowledge.”
