Intrepid to absorb Peregrine Adventures into premium and comfort ranges

Intrepid Group will phase out Peregrine Adventures at the start of next year to devote more energy to its high-end range.

The move marks the final step in the adventure travel company’s consolidation of its consumer-facing business into one brand, following Geckos’ integration into Intrepid’s 18-to-29s range in 2018.

According to Intrepid’s chief commercial officer, Brett Mitchell, the move will give agents and clients access to a larger selection and a wider range of departure dates.

“We’re definitely sad to see Peregrine go, but we’re really excited about this,” he told Travel Weekly.

“We’re focusing more of our expertise and resources to improve value to the client. This is a way for us to combine our buying power and focus.”

This year, Peregrine Adventures offered 186 itineraries in 62 countries.

By comparison from January 2022, Intrepid will offer almost 300 itineraries in 73 countries across its Intrepid Premium and Comfort ranges.

Mitchell said the new product will be of a higher standard than Peregrine, with accommodation averaging four to four-and-a-half stars, featuring hand-picked, unique hotels and more inclusions.

The new trips will also bring the brand’s higher-end range to Oceania for the first time.

“Peregrine never have departures in Australia and New Zealand. Under Intrepid Premium, we have released new product in both Australia and New Zealand,” Mitchell said.

Intrepid’s commercial chief confirmed that Peregrine staff would be absorbed into the Intrepid Premium and Comfort ranges.

“As far as industry partners go, you’ll be dealing with the same people,” he said.

“You’ll have the exact same staff and the same commission levels, but the product will be more high-end, which means more commission in our partner’s pockets.”

Clients and agents with Peregrine Adventures credits will be offered a “like-for-like” itinerary with the brand’s premium range, which Mitchell said will actually represent an upgrade in most cases due to the higher product standard.

They will also have access to a range of other options such as transferring the credit to another Intrepid trip or receiving a refund.
