Royal Caribbean names new sales boss for Australia and NZ

Royal Caribbean International has announced the appointment of Dave Humphreys as its new director of sales across Australia and New Zealand.

Humphreys joins Royal Caribbean from Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena, where he was deputy general manager and head of commercial.

He began his career in Western Australia running his own niche event marketing and strategy consultancy. Humphreys then joined RAC Arena in Perth, heading up the commercial team before being promoted to deputy general manager.

In his new role, Humphreys will lead Royal Caribbean’s strategic account, key account and district sales teams, and will be based at the cruise line’s Sydney office.

He replaces Peter McCormack, who was brought out of retirement at the end of 2019 to lead Royal Caribbean’s local sales team. McCormack will remain on the team to help onboard Humphreys until late May, before retiring.

Gavin Smith, vice president and managing director of Royal Caribbean for Australia and New Zealand, said: “We’re excited to have Dave at the helm of our sales team at an important time of growth and rejuvenation in the industry.

“His passion, energy, commercial acumen and deep knowledge of tourism will no doubt take our travel partner relationships to new heights.”

Commenting on his appointment, Humphreys said: “I’m looking forward to meeting our travel partners and to supporting and empowering them to build back stronger.

“With such a stellar team alongside me, we’ll build on our solid relationships in the industry and continue to set the standard for our guests and partners.

“I’m overwhelmed by the number of Australians and New Zealanders who say they can’t wait for their next Royal Caribbean experience. It is a very exciting time for our team and our travel partners to bring these incredible holidays back to our guests.”
