GM appointed to lead Best Western’s newest Aussie hotel

Australia’s newest luxury boutique hotel, Aiden Darling Harbour, has appointed Michael Sharp as its opening general manager.

Sharp is the first person to lead an Aiden-branded hotel in Australasia, and has 14 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, including nine in hotel manager and general manager roles.

Sydney-born Sharp returns to his hometown after eight years of running hotels in other parts of Australia and in New Zealand, to open Best Western’s newest hotel.

Sharp started his hospitality career at the age of 18 as a porter at Rydges North Sydney, and quickly moved into more senior roles, leading hotel teams in Canberra, Port Macquarie, Sydney, Darwin, Queenstown, Rotorua and, most recently, Wellington.

His latest appointment will see him debuting the Aiden boutique hotel brand in Australasia, with Aiden Darling Harbour, located opposite the Pyrmont Bridge in Sydney’s harbourside Pyrmont village, scheduled to open in the middle of this year.

The hotel will feature 88 smartly-designed and compact rooms, a hidden 25-metre-high mural, contactless technology and all the must-haves for a luxurious yet affordable stay on the city’s fringe.

Nicolas Chen, creator and owner of Aiden Darling Harbour, said: “After a thorough search for the ideal general manager, we’re excited to welcome Michael to the team to guide us through the hotel’s opening and beyond.”

Commenting on his appointment, Sharp said: “Nicolas has created a fabulous hotel, concentrating on the true essentials of what makes a great guest stay.

“Aiden Darling Harbour is set to be an impressive addition to the Sydney market for corporate and leisure guests alike.”
