Intrepid launches virtual experiences for families

Intrepid Urban Adventures, the day tour arm of global tour operator Intrepid Travel, has unveiled new virtual experiences to give families a taste of travel during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The live and interactive tours, launched in response to the growing demand for virtual experiences amid the ongoing global pandemic, connect Australian families with local tour guides and their families around the globe.

Hosted over Zoom, all tours are hands-on and are open to children aged over six.

Highlights include cooking pierogi with a family in Krakow, baking Anzac biscuits with a Melbourne mum and creating a watercolour masterpiece inspired by the works of Frida Kahlo.

The new family tours are part of the wider Urban Adventures at Home range of online experiences, designed to support local guides whose livelihoods have been impacted by the pandemic.

Sarah Clark, managing director for the Asia Pacific at Intrepid Travel, said: “During a time when we are all missing human connection, these new online experiences will give children the opportunity to interact with kids outside of Australia, ask questions about their lives and learn about different cultures and traditions from the comfort of their home.

“These tours not only give families the chance to reconnect with international communities – it is bringing work back to local guides who have been severely impacted by the pandemic both locally in Australia and around the globe.”

As of February 2021, Intrepid Urban Adventures guides have led over 5,000 virtual experiences globally. With the launch of family experiences, Intrepid now offers more than 50 online experiences.

In other news, Intrepid Travel’s not-for-profit, The Intrepid Foundation, has donated more than $20,000 worth of food parcels to 356 families in Peru’s Sacred Valley.

The meals will help to feed over 1,700 people, many whom are cooks and porters whose livelihoods have been directly impacted by the lack of tourism due to the ongoing global health crisis.

The Intrepid Foundation worked locally with the NGO MEDLIFE, who supports low-income communities in Latin America with access to medicine, education and food.
