Life in the time of COVID-19 with MTA’s Anne Lane

Life in the time of COVID-19 with MTA’s Anne Lane

This week, we traded slow cooker recipes with an MTA advisor. It took us a while to realise she was talking about a type of pot and not someone who takes three hours to make pasta.

What are you reading?

Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis.

What are you watching?

Grey’s Anatomy on Stan.

What are you listening to?

Podcasts from Jay Shetty, Shannon Mains and lots of motivational and funny things.

What are you cooking?

Quick and easy toddler-friendly meals. Slow cooker is the best!

How are you staying fit both physically and mentally?

Twice-a-week workout class, plus walks and healthy eating.

Mentally, it’s a bit harder. Reading a good book and practising self-care, as well as talking to friends, is helping me.

What’s something positive you’ve witnessed or experienced since the coronavirus hit?

People who have not been hit as hard (like losing their jobs) really want to help and make a difference. I’ve witnessed many random acts of kindness, like people paying for your fuel or a coffee.

Plus, lots of people have been getting creative and reinventing their businesses, and it has brought out so much hidden talent.

What have you learned about yourself amid the crisis?

I am more resilient and adaptable than I thought and gave myself credit for.

Coming from the travel industry background, new job applications have shown that I have a variety of skills useful for many different areas of life.

What’s your advice for others in the industry on coping with the crisis?

Stay positive, don’t put your head in the sand and try something new you never thought of doing.

Sometimes, you find a lot of joy doing something out of your comfort zone. I’m optimistic travel will return at one stage, and I believe it will come back bigger than we would have ever thought of.

Where is your favourite domestic travel destination?

Hard to pick a favourite … Litchfield National Park, Scotts Head Beach and Rottnest Island are all stunning slices of heaven!

What is the one international travel memory keeping you going through this time?

In 2019, I walked the last 115 kilometres of the Camino in Spain, and it has changed my view on life and myself so much that I’m keen to do the whole way one day. This goal and this memory keeps me going.

Where do you want to travel to once international travel restrictions ease up?

Germany, to see my family and friends.
