Life in the time of COVID-19 with MTA’s Tracey Flower

This week, we quizzed an MTA travel advisor on how she’s been coping with the global pandemic. She got most of the answers right … we think.

What are you reading?

The Art of Travel (again) by Alain De Botton.

What are you watching?

Ozark on Netflix. A thrilling series based in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri.

What are you listening to?

When I am working, it’s the radio, as I don’t watch the news anymore, so it keeps me entertained with music and daily news.

What are you cooking?

I don’t love cooking – I just feed the family so they don’t starve.

How are you staying fit both physically and mentally?

Yoga twice a week – loving it and great for mental health, too.

What’s something positive you’ve witnessed or experienced since the coronavirus hit?

How great my clients have dealt with the loss of their trips, but always made sure I was okay through lovely messages and gifts.

What have you learned about yourself amid the crisis?

I can adapt. After the initial shock, it was getting down to business – do the refunds and let’s move along with promoting and booking domestic travel.

What’s your advice for others in the industry on coping with the crisis?

Do the best for our clients so they trust and remain with us into a post-COVID world. We only have domestic to book, so let’s get to it. Don’t give up if you really love it.

Where is your favourite domestic travel destination?

Whitsunday Islands.

What is the one international travel memory keeping you going through this time?

That I actually went on an international trip to the Middle East in January 2020 – very blessed and good timing before the COVID show began.

Where do you want to travel to once international travel restrictions ease up?

Bali with the family, and I’ve already started planning my 20th wedding anniversary for 2022. I keep changing my mind on the destination though – Tahiti is always a good idea.
