Tourism Fiji CEO details new program to make Aussie travellers feel safe and confident

There is no doubt Fiji will be a popular holiday choice for Aussies once they are allowed to travel there again, and the destination has developed a comprehensive program in anticipation.

Speaking at Travel DAZE 2020 yesterday, Tourism Fiji CEO Matt Stoeckel said the organisation was launching the Care Fiji Commitment to trade partners this week.

“It’s a program has been developed in partnership and collaboration [with] government, industry and ourselves,” he told attendees

“It will be implemented ubiquitously across the country, across all tourism businesses, so we can really have a great alignment with all our policies and procedures and practices with some really great COVID-safe guidelines that the government have issued in Fiji.

“The advantage of that, of course, is that through the Care Fiji Commitment, we can then reassure Australians looking to travel to Fiji as their next destination, that they can do so safely and be reassured that we’ve got policies and practices in place in the destination to keep them safe.”

Stoeckel went through the six elements of the Care Fiji Commitment in detail, which was developed in line with the World Health Organization. You can watch his Travel DAZE session on demand HERE, and the industry guide to the Care Fiji Commitment can be downloaded here.

Tourism Fiji’s boss also explained the organisation’s four-stage Market Re-entry Plan to get the local industry back on its feet, which you can check out below:

As for when Aussies will be able to travel to Fiji once again, Stoeckel said it is a question he gets asked “a million times each day”.

“The truth is we don’t know when borders will reopen,” he said.

“It is, of course, a policy decision – a policy decision between Australia and Fiji’s government – but I’ll tell you this: Fiji would love to see Australian visitors back in the country, and I’m sure all Australians would love an opportunity to travel over to Fiji.

“We’ve just got to wait [until] the time is right for safe travel once again, but when that time is right, we’ll be ready, waiting, willing to extend that same famous ‘bula spirit’ and hospitality to all our Australian guests.

“We’re very optimistic and naturally confident about our borders reopening, but again, it is a timeframe that I can’t say to the audience watching specifically when that’ll be.”

There are still plenty more speakers to come this week as part of Travel DAZE 2020. Check out when they will be featuring HERE.
