WATCH: TikTok-famous cruise captain’s brilliant response to sexist troll goes viral

As most who have found social media fame would attest, there are some vile people out there who dedicate their time to trolling those with a big profile on the likes of Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and TikTok.

Take Kate McCue, who captains Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Edge, for example.

Boasting more than 300,000 followers on TikTok and over 170,000 followers on Instagram, McCue recently received a comment from a fellow TikTokker, asking: “How can you be a captain? Your only a woman.”

Rather than stoop to the TikTok troll’s level, McCue responded in the best way possible – not only recognising their remark for what it was (sexist), but also pointing out their misspelling of the word ‘you’re’.

“Normally when I’m scrolling through comments and I see something like this, I just totally ignore it and move on with my life,” she said in a video, which has had more than 5.7 million views on Twitter, more than 1.1 million views on TikTok and over 230,000 views on Instagram.

“But I think it’s about high time that I address this, because it’s 2020, and in this day and age, I’m shocked that someone still doesn’t know the difference between ‘you’re’ and ‘your’.

“So, just a quick reference: ‘You’re’ – as in ‘you are’ – like ‘you are sexist’. ‘Your’ is something possessive – it belongs to you, like ‘your ignorance’.

“But don’t worry – I’m here for you. If you need any more clarification, you can find me here…  in my captain’s chair.”
