“What a joke”: Matildas star Sam Kerr fumes at Jetstar over passport incident

Aussie soccer star Sam Kerr has been left fuming after being denied from boarding a Jetstar flight due to the state of her passport.

According to multiple media reports, Kerr was about to head off on a three-week holiday to Perth and then Bali. However, her getaway plans were soon thrown into disarray when she was rejected from boarding her flight with Qantas’ budget airline because her passport was damaged.

Kerr vented her disgust at the airline’s decision on Twitter, before Jetstar quickly replied back with an offer to help.

In a statement to Travel Weekly, a Jetstar spokesperson said: “Our crew don’t like being the bearer of bad news, but they have to enforce the immigration requirements of the countries we fly to.

“Some countries are more strict than others on this and won’t let you enter the country with a damaged passport.”

According to Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, while normal wear and tear on a passport should not be a problem, more serious damage can stop Aussies from travelling.

Specifically, DFAT’s website says there should be no tears in the pages, “especially the photo page”, everything on the photo page must be legible and clear, no pages should be removed, and there should be no alterations or tampering of passports.
