Aussie attraction partially reopens following tourist’s death

Jungle Surfing Canopy Tours has advised that its zip line remains closed, but all of its other tours have reopened, following the death of an Aussie tourist last week.

The company said in a statement that it was continuing to work closely with the investigators appointed by Workplace Health & Safety Queensland to establish the cause of the tragic accident in which a man died after plunging 16 metres while on a zip line tour.

A woman, aged in her 40s and understood to be the man’s partner, was taken to Cairns Hospital with serious injuries.

The tourist attraction located on Camelot Close at Cape Tribulation in Queensland.

“Once they have completed their investigation, we’ll have a clearer picture on what needs to be done to get Jungle Surfing up and running again, and will be able to provide an estimated timeframe for reopening our zip line tour,” the company said.

Jungle Surfing Canopy Tours reopened its Jungle Adventure Centre yesterday and is offering day and night walks on its property.

“Over the last few months, we’ve been trialling day walks on the property and receiving great feedback from our guests,” the company said.

“We’re offering day walks at 10:30am and 2:15pm to provide guests visiting the Daintree an alternative rainforest experience while Jungle Surfing is closed.”

The centre is open from 10am to 2:30pm daily offering snacks, drinks, souvenirs, local tour bookings, and tourist information.

Jungle Adventures Night Walks will be running nightly from 7:30pm, with the same pick-up locations and times as was prior to the incident.
