“I can SEE the bag”: Airline takes off as passenger spots his suitcase on tarmac

“I can SEE the bag”: Airline takes off as passenger spots his suitcase on tarmac

A passenger on a Lufthansa flight got a nasty shock when he spotted his suitcase on the tarmac as the plane prepared to take off.

In a Tweet posted on 29 September that has since gone viral, Twitter user Karn Rateria said he told the crew he could see his bag and was ignored.

“Uhm you’ve left my bag on the tarmac! I told the crew and they just said loading is complete. I can SEE the bag. And we’re taking off without it. What even is this?????” he said.

“Very sorry for that. There was an outage of the baggage system at the airport in Frankfurt. My colleagues are doing their best to locate the bags and send them as quick as possible,” the airline said in response to his tweet.

Rateria pointed out he was flying from Munich airport when the mishap occurred, not Frankfurt.

“I pointed the bag out to the crew, one of them spoke to the captain as well, but they just said loading is complete. Even though you could SEE the bag right there!” Rateria said in the same tweet thread.

“I was at the airport and past security well over 2 hours before the flight. One of the first 15 people to board.”

When Twitter user @kshitijm pointed out that the situation was mildly hilarious, Rateria said: “it definitely will be once I get my bag back.”

“But it definitely was extremely weird to be able to physically see my bag being left behind. As of now it’s infuriating,” he said.

According to the Independent, the Lufthansa manager at Munich airport said in a statement that a “rare technical problem” had occurred at the baggage drop, “which appeared only for this single registered baggage.”

“However, our ground staff identified this bag quickly and sent this to the passenger.

“We apologise for the inconvenience.”

Rateria posted an update to Twitter confirming he received his bag the next day.

“UPDATE – GOT THE BAG!” he said.

“Thanks to everyone who messaged with support. To the people who laughed, I shall join you once I’m unpacked. Anyway, happy to be reunited with my it.

“Hope none of you have to watch your bag being left behind and not be able to do anything about it.”
