“Oh, Sandra!” Air Canada’s newest collaborator shows us how to ‘Travel Like a Canadian’
Friendly, polite, funny, and able to say “I’m sorry” in any language. That can only describe Canadian travellers, as they are perceived to be some of the most accepted and loved travellers in the world. And while not everyone is Canadian, everyone can travel like one. With its latest campaign, ‘Travel Like a Canadian’, Air Canada is showing the world how Canadians do it.
Accompanied by a creative tailored to resonate across the world, the new campaign from North America’s favourite airline celebrates some of the country’s unique values. Travel Like a Canadian takes a playful look at how Canadians travel and interact with other cultures, including Australians, with the first ad featuring a cameo appearance by a group of Aussie travellers.
However, more Travel Like a Canadian star will be unveiled through the course of the campaign, as Air Canada will team up with celebrities to help spread the message. The first collaborator is award-winning actor Sandra Oh, one of Hollywood’s most recognizable Canadian stars and considered by many to embody the best in Canadian values. The campaign launch video, starring Oh, is a tribute to those values, and central to the story the airline is telling to celebrate its love for Canada.
Air Vanuatu drops fares from Brissie to Santo
Air Vanuatu has announced special sale fares from Brisbane to Espiritu Santo. This Air Vanuatu route offers the only direct flight from Australia to Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu’s largest island.
Direct flights operate each Tuesday, with the outbound flight departing at the convenient time of 11:10am (local time). The return flight from Espiritu Santo departs at 4:00pm local time.
The Brisbane – Espiritu Santo sale will kick off on 1 October 2019 and run until 18 October 2019. It is valid for travel until 17 December 2019. Flights are subject to availability.
Air Vanuatu offers four weekly direct flights from Brisbane to the capital Port Vila on the main island of Efate. With a flight time of under three hours, time poor travellers can make the most of a few days in Efate thanks to many activity, dining and accommodation options. Prices from Brisbane to Port Vila start at $459 per person return.
Jetstar to launch Australia’s only commercial airline service from the east coast to the Margaret River region
Travellers will soon be able to fly direct to the Margaret River Region with Jetstar announcing it will commence the first-ever commercial airline service between Melbourne and Busselton from 25 March next year.
Operated by an A320 aircraft, the three-per-week service will link the east coast of Australia with one of Western Australia’s top travel destinations and bring thousands of new visitors to the region annually.
To celebrate the launch, Jetstar is offering customers fares from $89* one way in a five-day sale starting today.
Tigerair brings back ‘pay to go, come back for $1’ promotion
Tigerair Australia is giving travellers the chance to shake off the winter chills with the return of its ‘Pay to Go, Come Back for $1 sale launching today.
Airfares are available across Tigerair Australia’s 21 domestic routes, with the majority of travel between 28 January 2020 – 8 April 2020. To grab a bargain, customers can simply purchase an airfare to their destination of choice and get in quick to secure a $1 return flight. Bargain hunters could soon be exploring the beautiful beaches of the Gold Coast, with return flights between Melbourne and Gold Coast on offer for under $100, cross country return trips from Sydney to Perth for under $200 and cut-price return flight deals from Melbourne to Hobart for under $70.
The ‘Pay to Go, Come Back for $1 sale commences at midday AEDST today and runs until midday AEDST Friday 11 October 2019 (or until seats are sold out).
Malaysia Airlines codeshares with British Airways
Malaysia Airlines is pleased to announce that it is offering more seamless one-stop air connectivity between Kuala Lumpur and several major cities in the United Kingdom (UK) through a codeshare arrangement with British Airways, one of its partner airlines in the oneworld alliance. All codeshare services will be marketed as Malaysia Airlines flights thus simplifying ticketing to one document issued by the national carrier.
Malaysia Airlines flies double daily to London Heathrow from Kuala Lumpur International Airport. As part of the agreement, Malaysia Airlines customers will be able to book seats on British Airways flights from London Heathrow to Aberdeen, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle beginning 2 October 2019 for travel from 9 October.
Subject to regulatory approval, Malaysia Airlines will also be codesharing with British Airways on European points namely Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Vienna, Brussels, Geneva, Hamburg, Lyon, Toulouse, Paris and Zurich. Other connections on British Airways and Malaysia Airlines network will be enabled progressively in 2019/2020.
United to host record number of events promoting aviation career opportunities for women
United Airlines is celebrating Women in Aviation International’s annual Girls in Aviation Day with an airline record total of 14 locations around the world. On Oct. 2 and Oct. 5, more than 500 girls from various non-profit organizations are joining United for hands-on experiences and to learn from women about various career opportunities available in aviation, with a focus on non-traditionally female roles.
Air France to offset all domestic flights
Air France has announced it will offset all CO2 emissions from domestic flights as of 2020. The airline’s sustainability roadmap “Air France Horizon 2030 will see the airline offset all emissions on flights within mainland France, representing more than 450 flights per day and more than 57,000 passengers.
The airline’s main goal is to reduce its CO2 by 50 per cent per passenger per kilometre compared with 2005.
Changi Airport Group offers free Jewel tours for transit passengers
To date, over 300,000 people per day, have visited Jewel since it opened and to further elevate the layover experience for transit passengers, Changi Airport Group, together with Singapore Tourism Board and Singapore Airlines, has introduced a new Jewel tour itinerary as part of the Free Singapore Tour (FST) offerings.
Over 1.1 million Australians visited Singapore in 2018, the majority of which enjoyed a stopover, and for those transit passengers who have a minimum 5.5 hour layover and the relevant visa approvals to enter Singapore, the complimentary tour will take them through the many features of Jewel, including a closer look at its architecture and array of entertainment, dining and retail offerings.
Two tours are conducted daily, one in the morning (10:30 AM – 1:00 PM) and another in the evening (6:00 PM – 8:30 PM), led by an experienced guide. Both tours feature the iconic highlights of Jewel – the Forest Valley and Rain Vortex, offer local food samplings and culminate in a free entry to Jewel’s Canopy Park, which is normally a paid attraction. The evening tour includes a viewing of the popular light and sound show, where visitors will see the Rain Vortex transform into a spectacular performance. Guests of the tours will also be able to purchase Changi Experience Studio (CES) tickets at S$19, which is a discount of S$6 from the usual standard rate for foreigners. The CES is an immersive state-of-the-art digital experience attraction, that tells stories of Changi Airport in an interactive way.
Qatar Airways Unites with HIA, QAS and QDF to ‘Think Pink’ for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Qatar Airways has joined forces with Hamad International Airport (HIA), Qatar Aviation Services (QAS) and Qatar Duty Free (QDF) to show their united support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a series of ‘Think Pink’ themed events and giveaways throughout the month of October.
Activities for staff will include pink giveaways and a series of lectures from the Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) at HIA, along with awareness workshops, free mammogram screening by qualified medical staff for all eligible employees, and the return of annual Charity Bazaar fundraising events at a variety of Qatar Airways locations.
The airline will also be relaunching a refreshed version of its much-loved pink BRICs amenity kits, containing exclusive products from Italy’s Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio eco-range, for passengers travelling on ultra-long-haul or long-haul flights in First Class and Business Class.
Emirates: top inflight movies revealed, milestone flights to Durban, A380 to Cairo and award win
Marking the end of winter, Emirates has revealed the top movies onboard its aircraft from June to August, with Captain Marvel taking the top spot in June, Alita: Battle Angel in July and Avengers: End Game in August.
All available on Emirates’ award-winning inflight entertainment system ice, which offers up to 1,500 movies from all genres in 44 languages and is updated monthly.
Emirates has won the Aviation 100 ‘Middle East & Africa Airline of the Year’, which is ranked through a series of vetting, polling and editorial deliberation. The win is based on Emirates position as the world’s largest international airline – with a global route network that has grown to 158 destinations – and continuous fleet and product enhancements.
In addition, Emirates is also celebrating a milestone in its operations to South Africa, marking 10 years of service to the port city of Durban. The first Emirates flight between Durban and Dubai operated on 1 October 2009, and the airline has since carried over two million passengers on the route.
Finally, Emirates’ award-winning A380 made its debut at Cairo International Airport yesterday as the airline brought its popular aircraft to Egypt for the first time.
Mumbai Airport to go plastic-free
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai has decided to tackle single-use plastics in its daily operations by becoming 100 per cent plastic-free as of 2 October 2019.
This means all food and beverage outlets in the airport will serve only paper straws, paper plates, paper cups, wooden cutlery and stirrers as well as containers. Retail outlets have also replaced plastic packaging across all segments including fashion and beauty with butter paper, cartons, cloth bags and paper boxes.
It comes as the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, has called for a nationwide campaign against single-use plastic.
Hahn Air achieves IATA Level 3 NDC certification
The German scheduled and executive charter airline, Hahn Air, announced that it was granted NDC Certification Level 3 status under the NDC (New Distribution Capability) Certification Program provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This status recognizes that Hahn Air uses Offer and Order management messages whose schemas are compliant with the standard NDC message schema, version 17.2.
