Air New Zealand pokes fun at Wallabies’ poor Bledisloe Cup record with cheeky full-page ad

Air New Zealand pokes fun at Wallabies’ poor Bledisloe Cup record with cheeky full-page ad

New Zealand’s national carrier has carried on its reputation of producing great ads by delivering an absolute pearler in one of Australia’s main newspapers.

The full-page ad in Saturday’s edition of The Sydney Morning Herald was addressed to “17-year-old Australians on behalf of Air New Zealand”, and listed some of the many things they would have witnessed so far in their lifetime.

These included “the birth of the smartphone”, “the first Australian Prime Minister”, “five other Australian Prime Ministers”, “Pluto losing its planet status”, “the reinvention of safety videos”, “the first Dreamliner taking flight”, “drones”, “planking” and “marriage equality”.

However, the ad also points out that 17-year-old Aussies have never witnessed the Wallabies win the Bledisloe Cup, adding “we plan on keeping it that way”.

The timing of Air New Zealand’s ad couldn’t have been better, as it was published on the eve of the All Blacks claiming the Bledisloe Cup for a 17th consecutive year.

What’s more is that the Kiwi airline followed it up with a parting shot at Australia’s youth:
