Booking.com gives Aussies the chance to stay in a giant avocado for a day

For the odd few who have ever wanted to be accommodated by a piece of fruit or a vegetable, you just missed out on the chance to stay in an avocado.

In celebration of National Avocado Day on 31 July, Booking.com opened a custom-built avocado-mobile dubbed the ‘Avo-Condo’. Think avocado on the outside and avocado-themed on the inside with Hass- and Maluma-themed innards and furnishings.

“Inspired by the world’s obsession with all things avocado, the Avo-Condo is a fun, quintessentially Australian experience like no other,” Booking.com Australia area manager Luke Wilson said.

What’s more, the lucky few travellers who hooked a spot on board the Avo-Condo (which was only available between 31 July and 1 August) had the chance to take in a cracking view, with the mobile accommodation parked at Cambell’s Cove Lookout at Circular Quay.

For two nights, lucky travellers lived “the ultimate Millennial’s dream” and experienced a once-in-a-lifetime sleepover overlooking the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, while enjoying a hamper of avocado-themed goodies during their stay.

But Booking.com isn’t the only OTA to celebrate a food-themed holiday.

Airbnb recently celebrated National Hotdog Day in the US by listing a 27-foot ‘Wienermobile’ for bookings. US-based hot dog manufacturer Oscar Mayer celebrated National Hot Dog Day, with available booking dates added on 24 July.

Airbnb said in a press release that this included a mini fridge stocked with Oscar Mayer hot dogs, all the Chicago-style hot dog essentials, an Oscar Mayer roller grill to take home, an outdoor space for comfortable hot dog eating and a custom Wienermobile art piece by local Chicago artist Laura Kiro.
