Avis Travel Agent Scholarship opens for 2019

The annual Avis Travel Agent Scholarship has launched for 2019, marking its 23rd year of celebrating excellence in the travel industry.

The scholarship continues to encourage, recognise and reward outstanding customer service, and is open to travel agents across Australia and, for the second year, New Zealand.

Speaking at the launch yesterday, Avis Budget Group commercial director Ian Jones said travel agents that can “make a difference between a trip and a memorable trip” should be primed to enter.

Entrants will undergo a rigorous, transparent and impartial application process, and will be judged by travel industry leaders on extraordinary customer service, innovation in the workplace and how they keep sustainability front of mind when working with clients.

Agents are required to answer a series of questions about how they meet the criteria in the most creative way, before submitting their responses in any format, including PowerPoint or video.

The sought-after scholarship offers the winner prizes valued at $35,000, including a range of experiences such as Qantas business class travel to an industry conference of the winner’s choosing within the Asia-Pacific region.

The winner will also receive professional coaching and profiling for one year from Right Path, as well as training opportunities and Cruise36o Australasia tickets courtesy of Cruise Lines International Association Australasia.

Applications close on 23 September, with finalists to be announced on Thursday 10 October. Finalists will have the opportunity to travel to Sydney to present to the judging panel ahead of the Awards Gala Dinner on Wednesday 13 November.

Tom Mooney, managing director of Avis Budget Group across the Pacific, said: “We’re incredibly proud and excited to launch the 23rd year of the Avis Travel Agent Scholarship program.

“The scholarship continues to grow and set industry standards of exceptional innovation and customer service.”

“Each year, we’re astounded by the level of talent the scholarship attracts across Australia and New Zealand, and we’re excited to see what 2019 has in store.”
