Why Perth is the perfect destination for sports-mad travellers

Like a neon halo rising out of the Swan River, Perth’s Optus Stadium is changing the face of Australian sporting experiences forever.

Perth, long home to the famed sporting grounds of the WACA and Subiaco Oval, recently welcomed a new venue that takes sporting entertainment to the next level.

State of the art in terms of technology and spatial design, Optus Stadium is one of the few arenas in Australia that provides the perfect viewing and environmental experience for attendees of all sports.

In June, the ground played host to game two of the NRL State of Origin, boasting a record-breaking crowd at the ground and an electric atmosphere for all who watched the sporting spectacle in the flesh or at home on the couch.

Proving it can also attract other sporting codes, Optus Stadium hosted a friendly match between English football heavyweights Manchester United and Leeds FC earlier this month, and is now gearing up for the Bledisloe Cup in August.

However, sport is not the only drawcard at Optus Stadium, with world-famous music artists such as Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and Eminem having already performed to massive crowds at the venue.

Furthermore, legendary rockers Queen are set to hit the stage at Optus Stadium in February next year.

The stadium of tomorrow, today

As one of Australia’s newest purpose-built arenas, Optus Stadium filled with features and technology that bring alive a real sporting experience for the crowd.

If the mesmerising light show before the match inside and out of the stadium isn’t enough, the Locker Room feature allows fans to watch their team warm up and run onto the ground, bringing them closer to the action than ever before.

With over 1,000 TV screens throughout the ground, full 4G coverage throughout the stadium, and over 50 food and beverage outlets across the venue (including a buffet and à la carte restaurant overlooking the Swan River), Optus Stadium provides everything sports fans could want and more.

A sporting island

Crown Perth – with four-, five- and six-star hotels across the complex and only an eight-minute walk from Optus Stadium – is an ode to opulence, filling up weekly for each new sporting instalment.

Both are situated on what is essentially their own island in the middle of the Swan, separated from the city by the magnificent Matagarup Bridge – a footbridge in the shape of two swans that light up with the colours of competing teams.

Ferry services across the Swan River, a major train station directly adjacent to the grounds, taxi ranks and a range of bus services running to areas all over Perth mean that your clients will never be left stranded even in the biggest of crowds at Optus Stadium.
