Former Miss Universe Australia left stranded in Bali over wet passport

A former Miss Universe Australia has been left stranded in Bali after Indonesian authorities rejected her passport.

Tegan Martin posted to her Instagram story on Friday, explaining immigration officials at Denpasar airport prevented her from boarding her flight back to Australia because her passport was damaged.

26-year-old asked her more than 117,000 followers if they’d had similar experiences.

“Wasn’t allowed on my flight due to this watermark in the corner of my passport. Has this happened to anyone else?” she said.

The Australian Passport Office states normal wear and tear should not be a problem but warns everything on the photo page needs to be legible and clear.

According to Nine.com.au, Martin also expressed disappointment the delay would prevent her from attending a charity event put on by a friend in a since-deleted video.

“I’m going to be missing my gorgeous friend Donny’s family charity gala tonight so I’m devastated about that I was really looking forward to it,” she said.

This isn’t the first time travellers have been turned away by Indonesian authorities over damaged passports.

Earlier this year, a 16-year-old Australian was prevented from joining friends in Bali because her passport was damaged and last year, a British couple were turned back over a passport with a dog bite marks.

Bali has been cracking down on damaged passports, imposing a $5,000 fine for airlines allowing those with “slightly damaged” passports to board.
