Plane lands without front wheels after landing gear failure

Plane lands without front wheels after landing gear failure

A Myanmar National Airlines pilot has been praised for landing an aircraft carrying 89 passengers safely at Mandalay after its landing gear failed to deploy.

The Myanmar pilot was called into action,Sunday, after his aircraft’s landing gear failed to launch after two attempts, requiring a daring landing without the plane’s front wheels.

On board flight UB-103 – an Embraer-190 model – were 89 passengers and a crew of seven; the plane landed safely, and no one was hurt.

Aviation authorities have labelled the incident a technical fault and is the second instance within a week of a flight malfunction occurring in Myanmar.

An unverified video on social media showed the landing as it unfolded, with the plane touching-down gracefully on its rear wheels, while gradually tipping toward its front-end where it ground to a halt.

“So they had to land with the back wheels… The pilot could land it skillfully,” U Ye Htut Aung, deputy director general of Myanmar’s Civil Aviation Department, said, as reported by The Guardian.

Htut Aung confirmed that there were no casualties.
