Get ready to have your heart thoroughly warmed, folks, because we’re about to introduce you to Jonathan, the travelling chihuahua.

This criminally adorable pup was set to be euthanised at an animal shelter but was rescued by a New Yorker named Amanda Klecker and her husband Jeremy Simon who frequently travel for work.

Klecker told Lonely Planet that she started Jonathan off with small trips, building him up to long-haul.

“We gradually started taking him on longer flights and train rides, and realized that he just loved it,” she said.

“Travelling with your whole family can be such a fun and rewarding experience so we encourage people to also take their dogs with them, as long as both you and your dog are enjoying themselves and it’s safe. We only fly with Jonathan in cabin with us and would never put him in cargo.”

The jet setting little cutie has since been to eight countries including France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Canada, Belgium, Holand and Luxembourg.

And his holiday snaps have gained him quite a following on Instagram.

Klecker said European cities like Amsterdam, Rome and Barcelona are extremely dog-friendly, but Jonathan’s favourite is Paris, which he has visited twice in the past year.

“Not only is it beautiful but we cannot believe how dog-friendly this city is! (We) love seeing that dogs are openly welcome inside at restaurants,” she said.

Jonathan and his family also love travelling in their own backyard, visiting cities like Miami, Los Angeles, Nashville and New Orleans.

“Knowing that he was once destined to only see the inside of a cage before he was euthanized makes it all the more important for us to show him the world,” Klecker said.

We hope that sharing his adventures can help eliminate the negative stigma surrounding shelter animals and shed a positive light on adoptable pets.”

We’re not crying, you are.
