Crew members of Princess Cruises’ Regal Princess cruise ship were called to help with the rescue of two passengers on board a downed plane that crashed in the Caribbean Sea.

The plane fell 23 miles southeast of Grand Turk Island in the Turks and Caicos, in the path of the ship’s voyage to St Thomas.

After The Federal Aviation Administration received notification of the crash, the US Coast Guard in Miami dispatched aircraft to the site and contacted the ship’s captain for help, according to the Miami New Times.

The incident was spotted at sea by passengers on-board the ship, while onlookers watched the rescue underway. A few onlookers captured the event and posted the event as it unfolded on Twitter:

With the combined efforts of the US Coast Guard and Regal Princess crew-members, both passengers were rescued and arrived on board the Regal Princess safely.

Following the event, Princess Cruises tweeted a small congratulations to the crew and US Coast Guard for the rescue of the two passengers onboard the plane.

As of yet, the cause of the plane crash has not been revealed.
