Man cops RCL ban after jumping from cruise ship

We’ve done a lot of questionable things onboard cruise ships in our time, but never severe enough to warrant a ban.

But then again we’ve never been brave enough to jump overboard, like Nick Naydev.

Or perhaps stupid is a better word? Maybe dangerous? Or even life-threatening?

Either way, it was more than enough for Royal Caribbean Cruiseline (RCL) to impose a life ban on the Washington based daredevil.

Naydev was docked in Nassau while onboard RCL’s Symphony of the Seas in the Bahamas with a group of friends when he decided to throw himself overboard, plunging about 30 meters into the water below.

He posted the footage to Instagram last Friday with the caption “Full send”.

“This was stupid and reckless behaviour and he and his companions have been banned from ever sailing with us again,” Royal Caribbean spokesman Owen Torres told The Washington Post.

“We are exploring legal action.”

According to Fox News, RCL contacted local authorities to remove the group from the ship immediately after Naydev hit the water.

From there, they were forced to make their own way home from the Bahamas.

Naydev said his neck and tailbone hurt after the jump and he could “barely walk” for three days, the Post reported.

I did not think this through before I jumped,” Naydev said in a statement to Fox 13 News.

“My idea was this would be a good laugh for my friends, and I would just swim back to shore and continue my vacation and never thought this would be this serious.”

Naydev told KGW 8 News he hopes he didn’t inspire anybody else to perform the stunt because it is “very dangerous”.

“I mean, don’t think this is a joke. The last thing I want to do is feel responsible that because of me I inspired somebody to do this.”
