Midweek Interview with On The Go Tours’ new head of industry sales

For the very first midweek interview of 2019, we grabbed Dennis Basham for a stroll around Sydney. Just kidding – we emailed him from an air-conditioned room.

The challenge for the industry is…

Keeping up with new technology, systems & using data more effectively.

The things I like about my job…

Offering memorable, life-changing experiences to our valued guests. And of course, all the people I’ve met along the way from Virgin Australia all the way to my new spot with On The Go Tours.

And the frustrations are…

There are never enough hours in the day!

If I didn’t work in travel I would be…

Working at Bunnings in the gardening section.

Favourite airline?

Virgin Australia.

My proudest moment was…

Seeing my daughter graduate as a registered nurse earlier this year.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was…

I plead the fifth…

I try to relax by…

Going to the movies. It helps me remove myself from work.

The last time I feared for my life was…

It would have to be bungy jumping in Cairns about 10 years ago. I’ll never do that again!

If I can, I always try to avoid…

Getting a flight before seven am.

I really wish I had…

A money tree!

The best advice I’ve ever received was…

“Dress for the role you want, not for the one you have”.

I don’t understand why people…

Are not nicer to each other.

My greatest weakness is…

I struggle to switch off and completely relax (and nachos).

And my greatest strength is…

I’m a highly organised Virgo.

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would…

Pack up and move to New York.

If I was prime minister I would…

Invest more money into mental health and the homeless.

If I could be someone else for one day I would be…

Donald Trump, so I could resign.

I’ve always wanted to travel to…

Iceland.

My favourite holiday was…

A week on Tavanipupu Island Resort, a private island in the Solomon Islands. It is the epitome of relaxation.
