“Tourism is the lifeline to recovery” Sue Badyari on Kerala floods

Following the worst flooding in Kerala in nearly a century, World Expeditions is urging travellers to be part of the recovery by visiting ASAP.

The Kerala government estimates one-sixth of the state’s total population has been directly affected by the flood disaster and related incidents, which is precisely the reason World Expeditions is encouraging travellers to visit.

According to World Expeditions CEO, Sue Badyari, tourism is the lifeline to recovery.

“If southern India has been on your travel wish list, now is the time to go,” Badyari said.

“Rather than avoiding the state following the disaster, we encourage our travellers to do the exact opposite because bringing tourism income to a devastated community is the best way to help it recover.”

“The crisis has passed and the clean-up is well underway” she said.

“Fortunately, the cycling routes and campsites we use on our trips were unaffected by the floods nor our trekking routes as they are situated well above the flooded areas.”

“World Expeditions is acutely aware that tourism supports the economies of destination countries and there’s no better way to help local people after a natural disaster than by visiting their country,” she said.

“Kerala has long been a favourite adventure travel destination for its relaxed pace, the warmth of the local people, the outstanding food, fascinating history, exciting wildlife sanctuaries and the treasure chest of beautiful, natural attractions.”
