Comedian Celeste Barber on how she became a cruise convert

Excuse us, but we’re still recovering from this hilarious video Instagram comedian Celeste Barber filmed for Royal Carribean.

In case you missed it, you can watch the video here.

The Instagram sensation is famous for posting photos of her trying to imitate celebrity poses with hilarious results, landing her with more than four million followers.

RCI challenged Barber to complete as many Royal onboard experiences as possible in one day, but she must complete them on dry land and the results were, pardon our French, bloody hilarious.

We’re so obsessed with Barber’s comedy genius, we decided to have a chat with her so we could do some good old fashioned fan girling.

Oh, and bring you this exclusive Q&A.

Travel Weekly: What inspires you to make your hilarious videos?

Celeste Barber: I want to make people laugh, that is the main reason. I also want to cut through the crap and show that what we are being fed isn’t real.

TW: Why did you choose to work with RCL Australia?

CB: I didn’t know much about cruising before accepting #cruisechallengeaccepted. It sounded like fun, so how could I say no?

On a cruise with Royal, you have so many awesome activities all in close proximity (and included in your cruise fare!).

I was totally up for the challenge of attempting to do all the great things you can do on a Royal Caribbean cruise but doing them all in one day on dry land.

I worked out pretty quickly that trying to do all these activities on land with my family was completely exhausting and was going to leave me penniless so the idea of doing them all on a fancy cruise with a glass of wine nearby is far more appealing.

TW: Of the onboard experiences you tried at home, which was the most difficult to pull off?

CB: It has to be attempting to replicate RipCord by iFLY and Flowrider. The fact that you can skydive and surf at sea blows my mind!

Obviously trying to do both of these activities on dry land in one day is near impossible so I had to improvise with a trampoline and Slip ‘N Slide.

This wasn’t quite the same adrenaline rush or accessible as the real thing.

I soon realised that it’s not nearly as quick, convenient or thrilling as the onboard experience.

I spent the day carting the kids around town which is never fun, and the quality of my dryland activities was obviously somewhat different from the onboard Royal experience.

TW: Which of the experiences was your favourite?

CB: Trying to replicate an innovative onboard stage-show performance was entertaining.

The state-of-the-art stage shows, productions and performances on Royal sound incredible and right up my alley.

I can’t wait to catch a real Broadway Show at sea – perhaps they’ll need an extra to take to the stage!

TW: Are you much of a cruiser yourself? Has your perception changed after working with RCL?

A cruise holiday hadn’t crossed my mind before working with Royal.

The thought of being stuck on a ship with bored, whining kids put me off – obviously, I now know how many unique activities and features can be found on onboard.

There would be no time for anyone to be bored.

We’re going to New Zealand on our first family cruise early next year. It’s going to be epic spending a week on Ovation of the Seas – Australia’s biggest ship!

I can’t wait to try out The Bionic Bar (a futuristic robotic bar), and enjoy a delicious meal at Jamie’s Italian by Jamie Oliver.

TW: Do you have a fave travel destination?

We frequently visit Bali, and were last there in January. #hothusband and I got married there so it’s a very special place for us.
