WATCH: Travel Counsellors Video Series – Hamish Naicker

It’s our fifth instalment of our Travel Counsellors video series! If you hadn’t noticed, it’s been running for the past four weeks, and we advise you tune in now as there is still plenty of inspiration to go around.

Last week, we gave you a glimpse into Travel Counsellor Karen Coates’ life. Karen said that her favourite thing about being a Travel Counsellor was that she is not only accessible to her teenage girls, but she is also motivated “to do better and to strive for better”.

In today’s episode, we introduce you to Hamish Naicker. Hamish works both out of home and overseas while he is travelling – anywhere from Fiji to Madagascar.

After making it halfway through studying psychology at university, he realised that it wasn’t for him, and after some soul-searching travel, he got hooked himself and decided to become a travel agent.

“I became a travel agent essentially because I just caught the travel bug. But searching for a bit more work life balance, a bit more flexibility to be in control of my own bookings, and my own clients, I came across Travel Counsellors, and it was the best decision I made,” he said.

Individual Travel Counsellors personally tailor trips to their clients, which is probably why the company has the highest customer satisfaction score of any travel company in the world.

Travel Counsellors are essentially starting their own business, earning commission as opposed to a monthly salary, with the additional support of the company.

“The most rewarding part for me at the moment being a Travel Counsellor is just seeing my business grow. And knowing that I did that, and I’m not doing it for anyone else but myself,” Hamish said.

“To have the ability to control your own earnings, to control your business – and it is your business – I just love that ownership factor.”

If you’re feeling inspired, learn more about why Hamish loves being a Travel Counsellor below.
