7-Eleven Encourages Tourists To Protect Themselves From “The Land Of Chlamydia”

7-Eleven Encourages Tourists To Protect Themselves From “The Land Of Chlamydia”

A Norwegian ad spruiking 7-Eleven condoms has gone viral for its brutal honesty about the Scandinavian country.

The ad opens with a celebration of Norway’s incredible scenery, from mountains to fjords, then proceeds to warn viewers about the nation’s sexual health issues.

It says, “Norway has one of the highest rates of chlamydia in Europe.”

Adding, “Visiting from abroad? Make sure to protect yourself against the locals!”

The campaign follows news Norway has one of the highest rates of chlamydia in Europe.

According to statistics, in 2016 there were 67 new cases of chlamydia discovered every day.

Meaning, chlamydia affects 486 out of every 100,000 inhabitants in Norway, with an increase of 7 per cent year-on-year.

A Visit Norway spokesperson has said the advertisement is simply selling condoms, not attempting to warn people about STI’s.

He added the campaign makes Norwegians seem “outrageous, sleezy and addicted to sex.”

The campaign is supported by posters featuring an idyllic mountain scene and two traditionally-dressed Norwegians, with the tagline: “Welcome to Norway! The Land of chlamydia.”
