Growing sustainability focus at Banyan Tree Vietnam Resorts
Banyan Tree has introduced a sustainable gardening project at its Vietnamese properties, which is seeing the company’s Lang Co-based resorts reaping what they sow, and helping local farmers in the process. To date, the program has provided around 3000 kilograms of local vegetables and herbs for Banyan Tree Lang Co and Angsana Lang Co, including 1582kg of produce harvested between January and April alone.
Produce is used in a variety of dishes across both properties, as well as in cocktails and mocktails at Angsana Lang Co’s Rice Bar & Bowl and in the welcome drinks served at the onsite spas.
Guests are invited to visit the property during their stay and enjoy a tour which consists of an organic farm model introduction, worm farm visit, local vegetable introduction, planting, harvesting, and feeding the farm’s animals. Cooking classes are also available at the garden.
The organic garden is run with the help of local farmers. In 2017, when the garden was first established, Banyan Tree conducted two workshops for local farmers to provide the necessary skills and knowledge for sustainable planting and agriculture. This year, Banyan Tree will expand the program to include local children. Since launch, the garden has welcomed 157 hotel guests and 70 local farmers.
