Booking.com’s big new advantage over its competitors

For the first time ever, Booking.com has revealed the number of listings available on the platform and oh boy is it big.

More than 27 million to be exact.

And within that total, the online booking platforms has reached a milestone of five million listings in homes, apartments and other unique listings.

That’s more than any other digital platform, including Airbnb.

According to a release from the Booking.com, 30 per cent of travellers are now looking to experience this type of alternative accommodation, so the company has been working tirelessly to expand its network to meet this new demand.

However, the online booking platform remains a global leader in providing more traditional forms of accommodation,  from hotels to homes, villas, apartments and ryokans – than any other digital travel platform.

According to recent research that Booking.com conducted in 2017 with more than 57,000 travellers across 30 markets, 30 per cent said they want to stay in an apartment, aparthotel or condo in 2018, further evidence that consumer demand for accommodation beyond the hotel remains strong.

In fact, other research conducted by Booking.com in 2017 with 19,000 travellers in 26 countries, one in five said that they would consider listing their own home on a travel accommodation site over the coming year.

“We know that travellers are passionate about exploring a huge variety of different stay experiences, including everything from apartments to houseboats,” said Olivier Grémillon, Vice President at Booking.com.

“We’ve been pushing hard to add as many amazing homes and apartments to our platform as possible in order to guarantee that we’re providing the choice and diversity our customers crave.”

“We’re definitely proud of this milestone and will continue to strengthen our leadership position in this space.”
