Contiki launches chatbot, but says it’s aware of necessity of agents

Youth travel gurus Contiki have launched a travel savvy chatbot to help agents and travellers find a trip tailored to fit the increasingly diverse millennial audience.

The chatbot, named Tiki, is designed to help navigate the brand’s eight travel styles which they launched in 2014.

“Our audience aren’t homogenous,” Contiki Marketing Director, Vanessa Stavrou said in a statement.

“When people think of youth they’re quick to generalise, but it would be naïve to do so, it just isn’t the case.”

Contiki’s travel styles have been received fairly well with agents and travellers alike, who’ve found they provide an easy way to match a traveller to a trip, and as a result, receive an experience that better matches their expectations.

Tiki asks users a set of questions about their personality, travel preferences and tastes to identify their travel style and suggest a number of trips that would suit them best.

“But that’s where Tiki’s job ends,” the company says.

“Unlike other firms who have released technology aimed at automating the roles of travel consultants, Contiki is acutely aware of the human necessity when it comes to destination knowledge, customer service, and booking handling that can only be provided by agents.”

“Tiki is a tool that can be used to bring some fun into the research phase of travel,” says Stavrou.

“It will also help agents to better understand their client’s style, and give them a leg up on suggesting experiences that suit their motivations, tastes and preferences.”

Tiki also likes to communicate through a mix of pop culture references and memes that it likes to call “bot-banter”.

Everyone knows the key to a millennials heart is memes, so we have no doubt this ‘lil robot will go far.
