Helloworld has appointed John Constable as the new Group General Manager of Retail and Commercial.

But why does this name ring a bell you ask?

No, it’s not because he shares the same name as an English Romantic painter.

Constable is the former Global head of STA.

According to the release from HLO, Constable has also held senior positions with Tui and other major UK travel retail and wholesale businesses and will take up the position, based in Melbourne, on 12th February 2018.

“I am delighted that John has agreed to join Helloworld Travel Limited,” said Helloworld Travel CEO Andrew Burnes.

“John brings with him a wealth of experience in the wholesale and retail global travel distribution business and I am confident he will have a very positive impact on our retail businesses, including our commercial operations,” he added.

The release added, “This appointment now establishes the four pillars of Helloworld Travel’s operational management team”.

“Constable will be heading up the Retail and Commercial divisions in Australia, Cinzia Burnes heading up the Wholesale and Inbound divisions, Russell Carstensen heading up the Corporate and Air Tickets businesses and Simon McKearney heading up Helloworld’s extensive operations in New Zealand.”

Yesterday, the prospective acquisition of Magellan by Helloworld was delayed.

HLO originally announced it would be acquiring Magellan in December of last year.

The update, released on Friday, 2 February, said:

Helloworld Travel Limited today announced that it anticipates the acquisition of the Magellan Travel Group, as announced on 19th December 2017, will complete by the end of February.

“WE INITIALLY BELIEVED THE TRANSACTION WOULD SETTLE IN JANUARY HOWEVER DUE TO SOME COMPLEXITIES WITH THE MAGELLAN MEMBERSHIP STRUCTURE IT HAS TAKEN LONGER THAN INITIALLY ANTICIPATED FOR MAGELLAN TO COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION.

“We are confident that the transaction will now complete by the end of the month”, said Andrew Burnes, Chief Executive Officer of Helloworld Travel.

Burnes also confirmed that Helloworld Travel will release its half-yearly results on Monday 19th February.

Helloworld Travel entered into a Heads of Agreement to acquire the Magellan Travel Group for $32.5 million in December.
