Midweek Interview with Intrepid Group’s Drew Martinez

Midweek Interview with Intrepid Group’s Drew Martinez

Intrepid Group GM of Marketing Services and Innovation Drew Martinez reveals all in our latest Midweek Interview, although Travel Weekly insists no “rack of truth” or hot irons were used in the interview.

The challenge for the industry is…

To continue to take people to amazing destinations that aren’t yet trending on Instagram. Plus, ensuring that when our travellers leave each destination, they leave it in a better place than when they arrived.

The things I like about my job

Working with incredibly talented people at the intersection of CX & Brand. We work together to deliver travel experiences that change the way people see the world.

And the frustrations are …

Wanting things to move faster than they actually do, which is more of a personal frustration. What’s that saying? Is Patience a virtue?

If I didn’t work in travel I would be…

Working in a profit-for-purpose start up. I could never work somewhere that  didn’t value purpose or innovation- lucky for me, Intrepid value both.

Favourite airline?

Qantas.

My proudest moment was…

Getting married earlier this year.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was…

Ever? #NSFW

I try to relax by…

Meditating each morning.*

The last time I feared for my life was…

This morning trying to squash onto the 7:59am Sandringham train. Worst. Train. Ever.

If I can, I always try to avoid…

The 7:59am train.

I really wish I had…

Got on the 7:44am train.

The best advice I’ve ever received was…

“You suffer more in imagination than reality”.

I don’t understand why people…

Answer the greeting ‘how ya going?’, with ‘how ya going?’

My greatest weakness is…

Everything salted caramel. Also impatience.

And my greatest strength is…

Being able to surround myself with the best people.

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would…

Pay off my mortgage, renovate, put the rest into LIC shares, and have avocado on toast each morning.

If I was prime minister I would…

Hopefully, have a longer crack at it than the last few.

If I could be someone else for one day I would be…

Elon Musk.

I’ve always wanted to travel to…

Egypt.

My favourite holiday was…

India, the sunrise walk up the hill to Savitri temple in Pushkar was something else.
